Episode 4 | Not on my watch!

Linx stood like a sentinel on a rain-slicked rooftop, a figure composed of sharp angles and deeper shadows. His heavy, customized multi-purpose tactical chains and grappling system, complete with the intricate spinal chain spindle and reinforced Kevlar mesh from his suit design, coiled from his gauntlets like a metallic predator, a testament to the extensive custom engineering of his arsenal.

His gaze was fixed on the city of Storm Valley, spread out below like a diseased lung, an acrid tang of exhaust and decay rising from its streets. Chris Faultly’s mind, inside the tac-suit, was elsewhere.

The Pachino war... God, that was extreme, he thought, remembering the firebombs and the coordinated, vicious assaults just a week ago. The city had felt like a tinderbox, and only the intense training with martial master Liu Fong had allowed him to emerge victorious. Liu Fong had been more than a teacher; he was a strategic genius, forcing Chris to see the battle as a complex equation.

Without Fong’s lessons, without his foresight, I’d be buried under a street somewhere. But the training, the discipline... it’s all here, integrated into every strand of this Kevlar, he pondered, feeling the suit's familiar fit. Yet, despite his power, the corruption in Storm Valley remained a deeper, more resilient parasite. Why do they take it? The police, the council. They see it all, and they just... rot from the inside. They know this city has potential, and they watch it burn.

A violent cry cut through his internal debate, echoing from the shadow-choked streets of the south side. Chris pivoted instantly, the multi-hook chain-mace weapons so carefully specified clattering as they uncoiled.

His gaze narrowed as he looked down at the street level. A silver SUV, doors hanging open, was a beacon of trouble in the darkness. He could see at least five figures—a gang, by the look of them. A woman in a light-colored top was cowering on the pavement near the passenger door, looking up in absolute terror, just as captured in his later action incident report. A man, likely the driver, was already down on the ground, dazed and struggling. Another gang member was in the driver’s seat. Two more stood near the open doors. One had a tire iron.

His gut tightened with a calculating fear. Five... armed. Clustered around a vehicle. This isn’t a one-on-one fight. Could I? He hesitated for a heartbeat, the tactical calculus spinning in his head. They are disorganized, but numerous. A mistake, and I’m a memory.

But as one of the figures moved a weapon menacingly towards the crouching woman, the calculations dissolved. The heart had an absolute priority. He was Linx. This was his purpose.

With a powerful push-off, he dropped, a silent shadow of retribution.

The descent was purely vertical, the chains a dynamic blur of potential energy. He hit the ground with the precision Liu Fong had drilled into him. The suddenness of his appearance was as effective as any strike.

He exploded into action. He didn't just attack; he attacked optimally.

The chains, the custom multi-hook links in motion, uncoiled in a devastating arc.  One mace head connected with a sickening THWACK! against the jaw of the masked gang member near the front door. The sound effect seemed to write itself. Simultaneously, the force of his landing, calculated to disrupt, already had one assailant recoiling.

Linx was a whirlwind of precision. He used the "spinal chain spindle" of his suit to retract and whip the chains in a multi-vector assault. He wasn't just hitting them; he was dismantling their numbers and their control. He used the length of the chains to control the cluster around the car, the multi-hook design allowing him to snag weapons and tangle limbs.

The remaining four were slow to react. The man with the bat tried to swing, but Linx used a controlled chain whip to knock it from his hands. He then kicked the driver out of the car, securing the cockpit. The entire engagement was a flurry of motion, but always with the strategic core Liu Fong had instilled.

Minutes later, the five numbskull gang members were either unconscious or incapacitated on the cold ground.

Linx stood among them, his chains rattling softly as he retracted them,  this time standing victorious over the defeated corruption of the streets.

He knelt by the woman. She was trembling violently, her eyes wide.

"You’re safe," he said, his voice a low growl through the suit’s internal speaker, designed for reassurance but etched with authority. "They won't hurt you anymore."

He checked on the driver, who was dazed but recovering.

Linx did not wait for thanks or for the distant sound of police sirens. He faded into the shadows of a nearby alley, scaling a wall to return to the higher ground. From the rooftops, he was once again just a sentinel, watching the city that refused to save itself.

Corruption is a cancer, Liu Fong, he thought, re-engaging his internal monologue as he re-coiled his chains. But as long as they are willing to fight... I will fight. Every single night.
